2025 NCAA Tournament: Women’s National Championship Odds updated ahead of Sweet 16

The 2025 Women’s NCAA Tournament is marching on this March. Now, with the Sweet 16 field set, the odds of winning a national championship are rapidly increasing as teams allow themselves to dream of cutting down the nets.

The majority of the top teams coming into the Women’s NCAA Tournament are still in the field. However, the odds of winning the national championship have had plenty of reason to get shaken up. That includes some major injuries around the sport as well as several close calls in the second round of the tournament.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the current national championship odds, according to FanDuel. This comes ahead of play in the Sweet 16.

Going into the Sweet 16, nobody has better odds to win it all than UConn. For a program that once won four straight national championships and has won 11 overall under Geno Auriemma, it would be their first since 2016. Always being one of the best teams in the time since their last win, UConn would love to remind the world that this is still the dominant program in the sport.

Led by star Paige Bueckers, UConn dominated its first two games in the Women’s NCAA Tournament. That included wins over Arkansas State and South Dakota State. They’ll now turn their attention to the Oklahoma Sooners in the Sweet 16, who should present a major challenge to the Huskies’ national championship hopes.

The South Carolina Gamecocks have been the dominant team of the 21st century. That includes winning two out of the last three national championships and three overall since the 2017 Women’s NCAA Tournament. Now in the Sweet 16 again, South Carolina expects their March run to be far from over.

In their first Women’s NCAA Tournament game, South Carolina managed to dominate Tennessee Tech. Their second game, against nine-seed Indiana, proved more difficult, though. The Hoosiers hung around until late in the game South Carolina was able to pull away for a double-digit point win. Head coach Dawn Staley knows that South Carolina can’t afford a slow start like that against Maryland in their next game, though.

From the top two teams in FanDuel’s women’s national championship odds to UCLA in the third slot there is a bit of a drop off in the odds to win it all here. For a UCLA team that spent several weeks ranked first in the AP Poll, it’s an interesting place to find themselves. This is also the third straight season UCLA has made the Sweet 16, but only once under head coach Cori Close have the Bruins made it beyond this point, back in 2018.

UCLA only has two losses this season. Both of those were to USC, who is still alive in the Women’s NCAA Tournament. They also have wins over an impressive list of teams, including South Carolina, Michigan State, Maryland, and the Big Ten Tournament Championship over the same USC team that previously beat them twice. After a pair of relatively easy wins to start the tournament, the competition heats up again for UCLA in the Sweet 16 against Ole Miss.

In their first season in the SEC, the Texas Longhorns found plenty of success. They even tied with South Carolina to win the conference in the regular season. Now, they’d also love to add a feather to their cap with a national championship too. As it stands, they’ve never made it past the Elite Eight under head coach Vic Schaefer.

Texas opened the Women’s NCAA Tournament with a pair of double-digit point wins over William & Mary and Illinois respectively. Their second round win over Illinois came with a particularly strong defensive effort, only allowing 48 points. That was the fewest points they’d allowed this entire postseason. Now, they turn their attention to Tennessee for an SEC matchup in the Sweet 16.

Notre Dame, at one point, looked like a clear national championship favorite before stumbling at the end of the regular season. Even with that slip-up, and some injury concerns to guard Olivia Miles, the Irish have some excellent odds. However, that would require getting past the Sweet 16, which for the past three seasons under head coach Niele Ivey, they’ve failed to do.

Notre Dame has cruised through two rounds of the Women’s NCAA Tournament. Both those games saw the Irish win by double digits and control the flow of the respective games, beating Stephen F. Austin by 51 points and Michigan by 21 points. Making sure they stay healthy is a big deal for the Irish, but the odds are good for Notre Dame. However, Notre Dame is set to play TCU in the Sweet 16, who they lost to in the regular season.

At this point, there is another major drop off in the odds to get to USC. The Trojans had a fantastic season where they proved the ability to beat anybody. However, disaster struck in the second round of the Women’s NCAA Tournament. Star Juju Watkins went down with an injury and has since been ruled out for the remainder of the season. If the Trojans want to win a national championship, they’ll need to do it without arguably their best player.

USC hasn’t been challenged yet in this season’s tournament. They have a pair of big wins over UNC Greensboro and Mississippi State. However, now at the Sweet 16, the competition is about to stiffen against Kansas State. They’ll have to take on that challenge without the help of Watkins.

For the third straight season under head coach Kara Lawson, the Duke Blue Devils have made it to the Women’s NCAA Tournament. They’ve yet to make it past the Sweet 16 under Lawson but would love to do it this season. It’s been an interesting season, with Duke proving capable of beating anyone at times, but also struggling in other stretches.

After dominating Lehigh in the first round, Duke got a scare in the second round. There, Oregon took the Blue Devils down to the wire. However, forcing 17 turnovers turned out to be enough to help the Blue Devils avoid an upset. Now, things are going to get interesting, though. Duke is set to play rival North Carolina in their next game, a team they split their regular season series against.

Under head coach Kim Mulkey, LSU has become a typically excellent team. This season has been no different with the Tigers finishing third in the incredibly competitive SEC. Now, two seasons removed from a national championship, LSU is confident that the program can make a deep run at another.

Despite losing their last two regular season games and getting knocked out of the SEC Tournament in the semifinals, the Women’s NCAA Tournament hasn’t been a challenge just yet. That’s, in no small part, because of their dominant offense which has scored better than 100 points in the first two rounds against San Diego State and Florida State. In the Sweet 16, there’s going to be another uptick in competition against NC State.
