9-1-1 Killed Off a Major Character in Intense Season 8 Episode

Watch: ‘9-1-1’ Killed Off a Major Character in Intense Season 8 Episode

Warning: This article contains major spoilers for 9-1-1’s April 17 episode “Lab Rats.”

It’s time for one character to hang up their uniform.

After eight seasons as 9-1-1’s leading man, Peter Krause’s character Captain Bobby Nash was killed off during the procedural series’ April 17 episode in a shocking twist to fans.

In the latest episode of the ABC show, Nash became infected with a deadly virus and, in the end, sacrificed his life by giving the only vial of vaccine available to Kenneth Choi’s character Chimney. In the fire captain’s final moments before his death, he shared an emotional goodbye with his wife, police sergeant Athena Grant-Nash (Angela Bassett).

Following the episode, Krause responded to fans’ shock and heartbreak over his character’s tragic end.

“I’ve heard that many fans are upset by this loss and they have a right to be. It is a loss,” he told Variety in a statement published April 17. “That said, it was more than a bold creative choice on a bold show. Bobby Nash was written in sacrifice and he was built for this.”

Of the real-life heroes his show portrays, Krause added, “First responders risk their lives on the job so that others can see another day. His story arc honors them. We at 9-1-1 salute all the incredible men and women who do these dangerous jobs and strive to keep us safe.”

As for how the Parenthood alum felt about filming the demise of his character, whom he’s played since the series premiered in 2018 on Fox? His on-screen wife provided some insight.

“He made you feel as okay with it as he could, but it was difficult for both of us,” Bassett told Variety. “And then I just had a sense of humor about, ‘Well, I’ve died twice. I’ve had a couple of characters who died a horrible death, so I know how you feel. It’s going to be alright.’”

But she quickly amended her statement, quipping, “Well, we’re going to be alright, we’ll see how the audience feels.”

As season eight of 9-1-1 nears its end, many series are beginning their new seasons. Read on to see what TV shows are premiering soon.
