A coast-to-coast storm is set to reach New England Sunday evening, bringing a swath of steady to heavy rain during the night and into Monday morning — similar to the rain event we saw last week.
The good luck charm is that this storm will slow down as this system approaches the region, leaving the heavy stuff to hold off until folks are not only home from the parade, but in for the night.
However, a leading warm front will spread through New England ahead of the main event, which will spark a few scattered light showers while driving temperatures into the 60s. Most areas will stay dry, but a parade route or two could certainly see a brief light shower, so it’ll be a good idea to bring an umbrella or wear a rain jacket.
Regardless if rain falls, a strengthening wind will certainly be present. Wind speeds will range from 10 to 15 miles per hour by around 10 a.m. and build to 15 to 20 miles per hour by mid-afternoon, with gusts nearing 30. The gusts will be strong enough to possibly impact a few parade floats.
South Boston: The parade begins at 11:30 a.m. and under mostly cloudy to overcast skies. Temps will be in the upper 50s and spilling into the 60s during the early afternoon. A spot shower is possible, but likely stays dry during the entire duration of the parade. Wind speeds range from 10 to 15 mph with gusts over 25 mph by the time the parade wraps up.
Worcester: The parade starts at noon under cloudy skies with a couple scattered showers possible. Precipitation should be very light should a cell cross over the parade route. Highs in the upper 50s when things begin and building to the low 60s when the parade is over. Wind speeds between 10 and 15 mph with gusts nearing 30 mph.
Springfield/Holyoke: Cloudy with the chance for a light shower or two when the parade begins at 11 a.m. Temperatures will range in the upper 50s and might touch 60 by the time the hourlong parade concludes. Winds between 10 and 15 mph with gusts over 20 mph.
Portland, Maine: When the clock strikes noon, the parade will begin under mostly cloudy skies with a slight chance for a spot shower. Temperatures will be in the low 50s with winds between 10 and 15 mph.
Hartford: Kicking off at 11 a.m., the parade will be under cloudy skies with the chance for a shower as temperatures build to the upper 50s. A chance to break 60 by the time things wrap up with winds building to around 15 mph with gusts into the 20s mph.
Newport, R.I.: Newport will hold its parade 11 a.m. on Saturday under mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures will most likely be in the low 50s with light winds to about 5 to 10 mph. It should stay dry for the Newport festivities.
