EF-2 tornado causes significant damage to Creve Coeur Park Soccer Complex

CREVE COEUR, Mo. — The city of Maryland Heights is cleaning up after a confirmed EF-2 tornado caused damage to the Creve Coeur Park Soccer Complex.

The National Weather Service confirmed tornado damage from Chesterfield northeast through Maryland Heights, Bridgeton, Florissant and other cities in the St. Louis metro area and beyond. Although the damage was rated an EF-2, officials say they’re continuing to survey the damage and the rating may change.

The soccer complex in Maryland Heights has 13 fields that host high school and national league games. According to their website, the field opened for the season late last month; now crews are left picking up pieces of cinderblocks, steel beams, office chairs, desks and building insulation near the concessions and bathrooms at the park.

Officials with the city said Monday morning, crews were cleaning up the damage.

County Executive Dr. Sam Page posted photos on his Facebook with this statement:

“As the sun sheds light on the damage from Friday’s severe weather, we’re getting a better look at the destruction left behind like these photos from Creve Coeur Park Soccer Complex. Please report damage to 211 so our Office of Emergency Management can send assessment teams out. Please make sure to check on your neighbors. It’ll take time for us to recover but in St. Louis County, we’re always ready to lend a hand and we’ll get through this together!”

St. Louis County officials say a “Crisis Cleanup” will be ongoing through March 28 to help people who’ve been impacted by the 314 Day tornadoes.
