‘You’ Season 5 Haunts Netflix TV Charts At No. 1, But Audience Is Down From Season 4; Tom Hardy Reigns Over Film List With ‘Havoc’

Joe Goldberg has returned to haunt the Netflix Top 10 one last time.

You was back at No. 1 among English TV from April 21 to 27, with its fifth and final season tallying 10.1M views during it debut week.

Unlike Season 4, Netflix opted to release all 10 episodes at once this go around, but viewership still notably declined between seasons, putting Season 5’s premiere week at around a 45% decrease in views compared to Season 4A, which managed about 92.1M hours viewed in the same time frame upon release (that translates to about 18.42M “views” — the new metric that Netflix began using in 2023).

Netflix has had varied success with its split release strategy, and it appears that Season 4 is where the viewership decline for You really began. When looking at “views,” Season 4 Part 1 and 2 were both up from Season 3’s premiere week viewership of 133M hours viewed (which is about 13.3M views), but Part 2 did decline over Part 1 to just 75.8M hours viewed (or about 15.2M views).

That’s not to say the series isn’t still wildly popular. Per Netflix, the series has managed over 500M views and counting. Season 1 was also back in the Top 10 this week for the first time since February 2023, when Season 4, Part 1 premiered.

Ransom Canyon wrangled 9.4M views last week, up from its premiere week to hold steady in second place on the chart. But, Black Mirror fell sharply to just 4.5M views, putting it in third place.

Adolescence is still going strong, holding onto fourth place with another 3.8M views. So far, it’s put up 134M views since its debut, and it remains as the third most popular English language series Netflix has ever had. However, there is still potential for it to eclipse Stranger Things 4 in second place. There are still 44 days in its 91-day premiere window, and it only has about 7M views to accumulate to bump Stranger Things 4 down a peg. At this rate, that seems fairly plausible.

Also notable, WWE’s Raw lept into fifth place, riding on the heels of WrestleMania 41, with 3.6M views. That’s up fairly significantly from the usual audience, though the weekly event typically manages to make it onto the bottom rungs of the Top 10.

As for film, Havoc was the most-watched title of the week with 29.8M views, while The Two Popes drew a sizable audience following the death of Pope Francis on April 21. The Dutch offering iHostage drew 26M views — another big week for non-English film.
