Cinco De Mayo is on the horizon, which means one thing: meal deals on Mexican food and beverages.

When is Cinco de Mayo?

If you have ever taken a basic Spanish class, you know Cinco de Mayo is May 5. This year it falls on a Monday.

What is Cinco de Mayo? Cinco de Mayo history

Cinco de Mayo – Spanish for “Fifth of May” – commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.

In 1861, Mexican President Benito Juárez declared a moratorium on foreign debt payments, frustrating European creditors, indirectly leading to France’s invasion of Mexico a year later.

Then, in 1862’s 

Battle of Puebla, an outmanned and outgunned Mexican army defeated French forces; France, however, would later regroup and capture Mexico City in 1863.

While important to Mexicans, Cinco de Mayo shouldn’t be confused with Mexico’s Independence Day, which is celebrated in September.

Chipotle’s combines with Roblox to give away burritos

Chipotle’s is not only offering free delivery through the Chipotle’s app with the promo code DELIVER from May 1-5 and offering free chips and Queso Blanco with promo code CINCO25 on the Chipotle app, but it’s also introducing the “Ingredient Quest” gaming experience.

Players will be tasked to find and collect virtual cards featuring Chipotle’s 53 real ingredients throughout the Burrito Builder experience on Roblox to score 50,000 free burritos. Here’s how it works:

• Roblox users will meet an employee inside Chipotle’s virtual restaurant in the Burrito Builder experience. Users will get a starter pack of five unique ingredient cards to begin the Ingredient Quest experience. The goal of “Ingredient Quest” is to collect all 53 ingredient cards.
• Users must roll burritos in Burrito Builder to earn Burrito Bucks, which can be redeemed for ingredient card packs. Each card pack contains five cards. Forty ingredient cards are available in card packs.
• The remaining eight ingredient cards are hidden throughout Chipotle’s Burrito Builder experience in a virtual scavenger hunt.
• The first 50,000 users to collect all 53 unique ingredient cards will unlock a free entrée offer.

Chili’s going after Gen X crowd with Radical ‘Rita

Chili’s is partnering with actor Tiffani Thiessen (“Saved by the Bell” and “Beverly Hills 90210”) to promote the Radical Rita.

The $6 margarita has Lunazul Blanco Tequila, Monin Dragonfruit, a float of Blue Curaçao, House-Made Sour, and is garnished with a lime wedge and a collection of 90s-inspired swizzle sticks. Guests can use their swizzle sticks to transform the color of their margaritas right before their eyes as the brilliant pink and blue are swirled together to become a vibrant purple cocktail.

Moe’s Southwest Grill giving away T-shirts, queso

Customers at Moe’s Southwest Grill can get a free side of queso with any entree on May 5.

Since Cinco de Mayo falls on a Monday, Moe Rewards members can also order the Moe Monday offer (a $7.99 burrito or bowl, and chips with salsa).

Finally, the first 20 guests to visit participating Moe’s locations on May 5 will receive a free Moe’s T-shirt.
