This hasn’t been the best season of Kansas basketball under coach Bill Self so far. The Jayhawks are back in March Madness, but it’s the first time in 25 years they aren’t a top-four seed. Instead, No. 7 seed Kansas begins the 2025 NCAA Tournament with a marquee West Region first-round matchup against No. 10 seed Arkansas and coach John Calipari in Providence, Rhode Island.
Artificial intelligence believes it could be the start of a magical March run.
USA TODAY Sports used the Microsoft Copilot AI chatbot to predict the result of every men’s game in this year’s NCAA Tournament bracket. The results looked a lot like a typical bracket filled out in NCAA Tournament pools around the country, and it’s becoming an increasingly popular tool for college basketball fans to use during March Madness.
Kansas is either the most notable exception in this exercise or a sign AI knows college basketball better than most of us.

The Microsoft Copilot AI simulation picked the Jayhawks to win their fifth national championship and third under Self. It cited the play of stars Hunter Dickinson and Dajuan Harris and had Kansas beating No. 3 seed Texas Tech, No. 1 seed Florida, No. 2 seed Michigan State and No. 2 seed Alabama along the way. It’s an unlikely scenario, though Kansas is favored to beat Arkansas on Thursday and has better NCAA Tournament odds than every other No. 7 seed in the field.
The AI simulation also predicted multiple upsets throughout the bracket, including a No. 15 seed winning in the first round and two No. 12 seeds advancing to the Sweet 16. Houston is the only No. 1 seed projected to make it to the Final Four.
