Here’s what to know about Season 2 of “The Last of Us.”

What is the series ‘The Last of Us’ about?

The series is set in a post-apocalyptic world following a parasitic fungal infection that takes over the planet. After 20 years of the fungus consuming populations, many humans turned into unrecognizable creatures called “the Infected,” and communities formed to survive…for good and bad.

The plot follows two survivors, “Joel Miller,” played by Pascal, and “Ellie Williams,” played by Ramsey, as they pursue a cure amid life-threatening and conflicting conditions.

According to HBO Max, the second season “picks up five years after the events of Season 1. Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”

The series is an adaptation of the original 2013 video game storyline produced by the American video game developer, Naughty Dog. The series was written for TV by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who carried over their work on the video game into a live action world reimagined.

Who plays the character Eugene in ‘The Last of Us?’ Meet the cast

Following the first episode called “Future Days,” many fans may need to watch Season 1 to better understand the names and events already mentioned in Season 2.

The character “Eugene,” was a member of the Fireflies (a revolutionary group fighting against the U.S. government’s quarantine zones) and husband of “Gail.” The character allegedly was killed by Joel after becoming infected, gamesradar.com said.

“Other than being married to Gail, little is currently known about the character, but we doknow he will feature in a later episode and will be played by Joey Pantoliano,” gamesrader.com said. “Presumably, the mystery of what happened to Eugene and why he died will be answered later on in the season.”
