A TORNADO WATCH is in effect until 9 PM Monday. This includes Wichita, Wellington, El Dorado, Marion, Newton, Arkansas City, Winfield, Sedan, Emporia and Eureka. Large hail, damaging winds and a few strong tornadoes are possible.
We have a Moderate Risk to the southeast and an Enhanced Risk that covers much of Central and Eastern Kansas. This is where the highest severe storm frequency will occur in these two highlighted areas.
Storms are firing up slightly earlier than yesterday. As the cold front advances with the dryline tracking to the east, more storms will fill in this evening near and east of I-135 with a higher uptick over the Flint Hills.
Damaging winds and large hail are possible, and a few tornadoes are also on the table for today.
Additional storms will form over Western Kansas. These could also be stronger for hail and high winds. These storms will track east with the cold front and will wane overnight.
Temperatures will cool once the cold front passes through the area. Highs will reset from the upper 60s to the lower 80s on Tuesday.
Lows will be chilly to the west/northwest by Wednesday morning. Some lows would dip into the upper 30s over far Northwest Kansas. Highs will trend in the 60s and 70s ahead of the next stretch of active weather.
While a shower is possible Wednesday, better chances for rain and storms return for more Friday and through the Memorial Day weekend. It will not be a washout. Storms will be around at times and a few could be stronger.
