NFL Draft 2025: After Giants sign Russell Wilson, what will they do with No. 3 pick?

Well, one quarterback-related development is now settled for the Giants: Aaron Rodgers won’t be joining them.

The Giants signing Russell Wilson on Tuesday — four days after they landed Jameis Winston — made sure of that.

But the Giants aren’t committed to Wilson or Winston past 2025. Nor should they be, since neither is a long-term solution.

So what will Joe Schoen — the Giants’ hot-seat fourth-year general manager — do with the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, now that he has Wilson and Winston in his quarterback room?

Let’s break down that question.

The Titans likely will stay at No. 1 and take Cam Ward. (Remember, the Giants blew their shot at the top pick by beating the Colts in Week 17 last year.)

What will the Browns do at No. 2? Well, they now won’t have Wilson. So they could definitely pick Shedeur Sanders.

That would surely mean the Giants taking wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter or edge rusher Abdul Carter at No. 3. This is a weak quarterback draft. The third-best quarterback — probably Jalen Milroe — is not worthy of the third pick.

If Sanders is there at No. 3 and the Giants don’t want him, would they entertain trade-back offers? They should at least listen. A still-rebuilding (to put it politely) team like the Giants ought to accumulate as many picks as possible, to plug its multiple roster holes.

Obviously, the Giants could take Sanders with the third pick if the Browns go with Hunter or Carter at No. 2. Again, Wilson and Winston are both short-term quarterbacks for this team. Sanders would at least give the Giants the potential of a long-term quarterback solution.

And with Wilson and Winston already in the mix, Sanders wouldn’t be under pressure to play immediately — though the minute Wilson struggles, there’s no doubt Giants fans would call for Sanders.

This might be Schoen’s final draft as Giants GM. Would he really pass on the chance to draft a quarterback of his own at No. 3 — if Sanders is there — and instead wait until No. 34 or No. 65 to address the position?

Quarterback is such an important position — and the payoff for securing an elite quarterback on his rookie contract is so massive — that it’s worth taking big/risky swings. So why not Sanders at No. 3 for Schoen?

Still, Schoen knows the Browns could take Sanders — another byproduct of that disastrous win over the Colts. And then — if Schoen doesn’t trade back — he surely would opt for Hunter or Carter with the third pick.

The arrival of either player would essentially push aside a former first-round pick.

Hunter is viewed primarily as a cornerback by NFL teams, though he can play wide receiver (and play it well). And the Giants don’t have an imposing receiver other than Malik Nabers. That’s worth remembering.

Still, if the Giants do indeed play Hunter at cornerback, that would mean the end for Deonte Banks (Schoen’s 2023 first-round pick), since they just signed Paulson Adebo to take over for Banks as the No. 1 corner.

The arrival of Carter as an edge rusher would mean Schoen giving up on Kayvon Thibodeaux (his initial 2022 first-round pick), since he just traded for Brian Burns last offseason — and paid him huge money.

Plenty of Giants quarterback questions still remain, even though their part in the Rodgers saga is over (if he ever even seriously considered signing with them in the first place).

The biggest questions, even after Wilson’s arrival: Will Schoen even have a chance to pick a legit quarterback prospect, Sanders, at No. 3? And if not, which direction will he go in?
