NBA Facing Major Accusation After Grizzlies’ Loss to Warriors

The Golden State Warriors defeated the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night in the 7-8 Western Conference Play-In Tournament game. After losing to the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, Golden State finished as the seventh seed, setting up this matchup with the eighth seed Grizzlies.

With Steph Curry battling through a right thumb injury, the Warriors leaned heavily on Jimmy Butler. The six-time NBA All-Star delivered, finishing with 38 points, seven rebounds and six assists in 40 minutes of action.

Memphis shot 23 total free throws as a team. Butler’s whistle on Tuesday night has many fans accusing the NBA of rigging this game for Golden State.

“If you want to see a rigged game, just watch every Warriors game and see how they ref for Jimmy Butler,” a fan wrote.

“I’ve never watched a more rigged game in my life that was insane,” said another. “You wonder why I didn’t wanna face the warriors in the 1st round 20 free throws for Jimmy Butler.”

“RIGGED HOW DOES JIMMY GET THIS,” another wrote.

“@NBA Gary Peyton can hold but you breathe on jimmy butler it’s two FTs your league is soo damn rigged and you can’t hide it,” one fan said.

“that jimmy butler foul got me thinking the nba might be rigged,” another post read.

“Took jimmy butler 18 free throws to win,” another stated. “It’s rigged for money or views idk which.”

“Jimmy butler almost has as many FTs as the entire grizzlies team,” said one fan. “I agree it is rigged for warriors.”

Butler averaged 7.1 free throw attempts per game during the regular season, which ranked 10th in the NBA. While he is among the league’s best at getting to the line, Butler’s 18 free throws on Tuesday night were a lot.

In his 14-year NBA career, Butler has 16 games with at least 18 free throws (via StatMuse). Play-In Tournament stats do not count towards a player’s regular season numbers.
