Astros host Mets on MLB Opening Day

HOUSTON – After finishing Spring Training, the Houston Astros will take the field for the first time on Thursday for the first leg of a three-game series against the New York Mets.

The Pitching Matchup

The Astros will be starting Framber Valdez, who will be on the bump for his fourth consecutive Astros’ Opening Day start.

The Mets will be starting Clay Holmes, a righty who they signed during the offseason after he spent the last four years with the Yankees.

The Lineups

The Astros’ lineup to open the 2025 season will lead off with Jose Altuve, followed by Isaac Paredes and Yordan Alvarez. Christian Walker will be the fourth man up, followed by Yainer Diaz, Jeremy Pena, Cam Smith, Brendan Rodgers and Jake Meyers.

Weather

Thursday’s showers are becoming more widespread but are expected to remain moderate. If you are headed to the Astros’ Home Opener, rain should fall apart by the end of the game. The showers are expected to redevelop overnight into Friday though.

The National Weather Service has also issued a Flood Watch in effect for most areas of Southeast Texas including Wharton, Fort Bend County, Jackson, Colorado, and Matagorda County until Friday 7 p.m.
