Robert Lewandowski hoping Barcelona can learn from Dortmund ‘wake-up call’

Robert Lewandowski feels Barcelona can learn from their defeat to Dortmund in the Champions League and says the loss may be the wake-up call the team needed.

Dortmund ran out 3-1 winners on Tuesday night in the second leg of their quarter-final tie in the Champions League but it’s Barcelona who progress 5-3 on aggregate.

The defeat is Barcelona’s first in 2025 and ends a great unbeaten run from Hansi Flick’s team. However, Lewandowski knows it wasn’t the worst game in the world to lose.

“We lacked control in midfield and we made a lot of mistakes. We lost possession, gifted them the ball… We made it easy for them to create chances,” he told reporters.

“We need to properly analyze the game. We have to learn from it. We can’t play like we did. If we have to lose and make mistakes, it’s better that it happened now. In the future there will not be room for so many errors.

“We congratulate Dortmund for their performance. Maybe it’s the wake up call we needed. We have to learn from this.”

Barcelona will find out later today if they will take on Bayern or Inter for a place in the final. After that, it’s a clash with Celta Vigo in La Liga on Saturday.
