Rory McIlroy’s Behavior Toward Bryson DeChambeau During Masters is Turning Heads

With the weight of the golf world on his shoulders, Rory McIlroy was in prime position to make history on Sunday at the Masters.

The 35-year-old star out of Northern Ireland had a chance to become just the sixth player in the sport’s history to complete the career Grand Slam. However, what started as a two-stroke lead over Bryson DeChambeau, ended up turning into McIlroy needing to fend him off throughout the day, along with a sudden-death playoff to stave off Justin Rose to seal the victory.

While fans were certainly loving having McIlroy and DeChambeau paired together on the final day in a battle of PGA (McIlroy) and LIV (DeChambeau), they learned after McIlroy’s win that the two may have not enjoyed it as much. When speaking to the media, DeChambeau revealed that the two did not exchange words “once” all day, expressing that McIlroy wouldn’t talk to him.

Whether the lack of discourse was due to the rivalrous relationship between the respective leagues or due to wanting focus, fans certainly had a lot to say.

“Pretty sure Rory was concentrating on his game,” wrote one user.

“De’Crumbles went to LIV .. that’s why,” added another.

“This sucks. No idea why Rory would do that,” said one fan.

“Wow…can’t believe that…disappointing,” wrote a fourth.

“Magic, Jordan, Kobe, Bird, Tiger, etc. mentality. I think it worked,” suggested another.

“Reminds me of when Tiger wouldn’t talk to Finau in 2019. Locked in,” pointed out another.

Regardless of what the reason was, McIlroy joined Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Ben Hogan and Gene Sarazen as the other players who have completed the career Grand Slam. The only difference between McIlroy and the other five was the fact that Sunday marked his 11th attempt at achieving the feat, a mark that was longer than any of the others.

McIlroy’s 11 under finish secured the win along with a $4.2 million payday, an honorary membership at Augusta National Golf Club and of course the iconic green jacket.

As for DeChambeau who finished tied for fifth, Sunday may have left him wondering what he did wrong.
