Beloved actor from ‘Dazed and Confused’ and ‘Boston Public’ dead at 54

Nicky Katt, who was best known for his roles in “Boston Public” and “Dazed and Confused” died at the age of 54, according to multiple reports.

Friends of Katt’s and his attorney John Sloss said that he died on April 8 in Burbank, Variety reported.

Katt, of South Dakota, was born on May 11, 1970, and began acting at the age of 7 when he appeared on the television comedy series, CHiPs, which first aired in the 1970s, according to IMDb. He then worked through the 1980s on shows like Quinoy, M.E., Father Murphy and V.

His characters later on in his career were usually known as the “bully or thug” in the story, IMDb wrote, including Clint Bruno in the 1983 classic, “Dazed and Confused.”

The coming-of-age film, directed by Richard Linklater, was about a group of Austin teenagers celebrating their last day of high school in 1976, Entertainment reported. Katt appeared in the film along with Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey and Parker Posey.

Katt then played Harry Senate in “Boston Public,” a comedy series that aired in the early 2000s about the lives of faculty members at a high school in Boston. The cast included Chi McBride, Anthony Heald, Loretta Devine and Michael Rapaport.

Other on-screen appearances included “School of Rock,” “King of the Hill,” “Monk” and “Law and Order.” His final role was in the 2018 show, “Casual.”
