Justin Thomas was on fire during his first round on Thursday, tying the course record with a 61 that included 11 birdies, and setting him up with a three-shot lead heading into day two.
Defending champion Scottie Scheffler is not far behind at -7, putting him three strokes back, well within striking distance for the number one ranked golfer in the world.
Some of the other favorites heading into the tournament, Xander Schauffele (-2), Collin Morikawa (-2), and Ludvig Aberg (-2), all find themselves in a bit of a hole if they want to claw their way back into contention for the lead. Friday could make or break their chances of climbing up the leaderboard.
