Cooper Flagg injury: Duke’s Jon Scheyer hungry after ACC Championship, game plans for March Madness

Duke’s quest for the overall No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament crystallized with Saturday night’s win over Louisville in the ACC Tournament Championship. Now, it’s up to the selection committee to do the rest, according to Blue Devils coach Jon Scheyer. Duke won its last two games without national player of the year candidate Cooper Flagg, whom Scheyer expects back for the tournament.

“I mean, look, that’s obviously the goal. There’s no question about it,” Scheyer said after beating the Cardinals. “But I don’t think — I just don’t think of it that way. I just think about it — I’m not running from that, either, and don’t get me wrong, that’s what we want to do. But just for us, we’ve approached this whole year, finish what’s right in front of you, and that’s the same thing.”

Despite missing two of their top six players against Louisville, the Blue Devils finished what they started as the ACC’s regular season and tournament champions and hope to get the overall 1-line over the SEC’s Auburn or Florida.
