Cooper Kupp has signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks after being released by the Los Angeles Rams. The star wide receiver, known for his elite playmaking, aims to fill critical gaps in Seattle’s receiving corps following major departures. Kupp, originally from Washington, expressed excitement about his new chapter with the Seahawks.
Cooper Kupp, the former Los Angeles Rams star wide receiver, has officially signed a three-year contract worth $45 million with the Seattle Seahawks. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero initially reported the news on Friday, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirming the financial details shortly after. Kupp’s departure from the Rams was widely anticipated after he was informed earlier this year that the team would seek to trade him. When no trade materialized, Kupp was released on March 12, paving the way for his move to Seattle.
The 31-year-old receiver brings a wealth of experience and elite playmaking ability to the Seahawks’ roster. During his eight seasons with the Rams, Kupp amassed 634 receptions for 7,776 yards and 57 touchdowns. His standout season came in 2021 when he achieved the rare receiving triple crown, leading the league with 145 receptions, 1,947 yards, and 16 touchdowns. That remarkable campaign culminated in a Super Bowl LVI victory, where Kupp earned MVP honors after catching two touchdowns, including the game-winning score in the Rams’ 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
For Kupp, this move to Seattle represents more than just a new chapter in his NFL career—it’s a homecoming. Kupp grew up in Yakima, Washington, located about two hours from Seattle. He also had a storied college career at Eastern Washington University, where he set FCS records with 428 receptions, 6,464 receiving yards, and 73 touchdowns. After signing with the Seahawks, Kupp expressed his excitement on social media, posting a picture of himself in a Seahawks uniform with the caption, “Washington back across my chest. Let’s go!!!!!”
Seattle’s decision to invest in Kupp reflects their urgent need to bolster their receiving corps following major offseason changes. Tyler Lockett’s departure and DK Metcalf’s trade to the Pittsburgh Steelers left a significant gap at the wide receiver position. Kupp is expected to provide a reliable target for new quarterback Sam Darnold, joining a receiver room that includes Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Jake Bobo. Kupp’s ability to run precise routes and create separation will be a valuable asset for Darnold, who is looking to establish himself in Seattle.
While Kupp’s talent is undeniable, injuries have slowed him down over the past three seasons. He missed 18 games during that stretch, including five games last season due to an ankle sprain. Even so, he managed to post respectable numbers in 2024, recording 67 receptions for 710 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games. The Seahawks’ willingness to commit $15 million per year to Kupp reflects their belief that he can regain his All-Pro form.
Kupp’s contract places him among the league’s better-paid receivers, surpassing Denver’s Courtland Sutton ($13.75 million per year) but trailing Cleveland’s Jerry Jeudy ($17 million per year). If Kupp can stay healthy and produce anywhere close to his 2021 form, the Seahawks will have secured one of the league’s most reliable receivers at a reasonable price.
Seattle’s front office clearly sees Kupp as a key piece in their offensive rebuild. The chemistry between Kupp and Darnold will be pivotal as the Seahawks aim to compete in the highly competitive NFC West. If Kupp stays healthy and performs at his peak, this signing could elevate Seattle’s offense to a new level—and potentially shift the balance of power in the division.
