MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Seven weather-related deaths and nine injuries have been confirmed in the Mid-South as storm damage mounts.
The confirmed fatalities all come out of Tennessee so far, though emergency management officials are continuing to assess the impacts of the ongoing severe weather throughout the region.
According to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, Obion County has confirmed one weather-related death in the area.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is reporting two deaths and three injuries after a tornado hit La Grange, Tennessee.
According to the sheriff’s office, a 48-year-old man and his 16-year-old daughter died at the hospital after a tornado struck their modular home. The mother was also taken to the hospital in critical condition after crews rescued her from underneath the home. Two other family members were hospitalized and are in stable condition.
The chief sheriff’s deputy in McNairy County, Tennessee, reports four weather-related deaths in the county.
NBC affiliate WTVA in Tupelo, Mississippi, reports that overnight storms injured at least six people in North Mississippi.
Governor Tate Reeves said in a press conference Thursday that three people were injured in Tippah County, two were hurt in Tate County, and one injury was reported out of Marshall County.
Reeves also said that at least 60 homes across North Mississippi have been damaged due to the ongoing storms.
