Joe Gatto, who starred in truTV’s “Impractical Jokers” from 2011 to 2021, has voluntarily begun in-patient care at a treatment facility following recent allegations against him of sexual assault and harassment. He has also canceled all upcoming dates on his current comedy tour.
“Having taken some time to reflect, I’ve decided to voluntarily enter an inpatient program to continue working on myself,” Gatto said in a statement. “I just want to thank my friends, fans and especially my family for all of their support – never more so than over the last few days.”
On March 20, a woman posted multiple TikTok videos alleging that Gatto sexually assaulted her when she was 19. (The videos have since been deleted.) On March 23, People reported that another woman had come forward to allege that she was sexually harassed by Gatto while working for him during his “Impractical Jokers” days, and that the harassment began as soon as she turned 18.
Gatto addressed the first allegation in a statement on March 22, before People reported the second allegation. “I have used poor judgment and as a result have violated the trust of the people I love most,” he said. “But anyone who knows me at all knows full well that I wouldn’t assault anyone. Working on myself is an ongoing process, and I am now going to take some time away from the public eye to focus my energies where I need to.”
Since his departure from “Impractical Jokers,” Gatto has focused on stand-up comedy, releasing his first special “Messing With People” via 800 Pound Gorilla and YouTube in 2024.
