Full list of grocery stores open on Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday is a holiday that millions of Americans celebrate, but the day could arrive with an unexpected trip to the store to ensure the perfect dinner.

However, because Easter Sunday is deemed a holiday, not all stores will remain open for your last-minute grocery runs.

Why It Matters

Good Friday and Easter Sunday are celebrated by Christians across the world to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his subsequent resurrection on Easter.

While Easter and Good Friday are not deemed federal holidays, some states and cities regard them as such, increasing the chances that your local stores could be closed for the day.

Target’s Easter Hours

All Target locations are closing on Easter Sunday to give the day off to employees to celebrate with their families. Stores are scheduled to reopen Monday, April 21.

Trader Joe’s Easter Hours

Trader Joe’s, which is a staple for unique grocery items and food dishes, will remain open to customers on Easter Sunday.

Stores will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time on Sunday, with the chain returning to its 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. schedule on Monday.

Whole Foods’ Easter Hours

Whole Foods, another top destination for shoppers creating the perfect Easter Sunday meal, will remain open on Easter Sunday. However, specific hours could vary by location and be more limited on Sunday.

Walmart’s Easter Hours

Walmart is a go-to spot for Easter basket stuffers and more on the holiday, so it will be good news to shoppers to hear the chain plans to stay open on the holiday.

For most stores, that means normal operating hours, but you should check with your specific location to ensure you’re all set for the big day’s unexpected grocery trips.

Other Major Retailers

Many other major retailers will remain open on Easter Sunday, including 7-Eleven, CVS, Dollar General, Kroger and some Starbucks locations.

Top fast-food chains like Burger King, McDonald’s and Wendy’s will also be open on Easter Sunday, although hours may be determined by franchisees.

However, for Good Friday, the U.S. stock market closes. Mom and pop shops may have more limited hours for the holiday.

What Happens Next?

The next federal holiday is Memorial Day, which falls on Monday, May 26 this year. On this day, Americans can expect federal offices, banks and many chains to close in honor of the U.S. military members who died in service.
