The Detroit Tigers won their second straight game of the 2025 campaign on Tuesday night with a 4-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners in T-Mobile Park. After being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the season-opening series out west, AJ Hinch’s squad has a chance to even out his team’s record on Wednesday afternoon.
As things currently stand, four of the five American League Central teams bring a 2-3 record into the day, while the Minnesota Twins are a paltry 1-4 so far. A win for the Olde English D would keep the squad at the top of the division — likely tied with another team — early on in this nascent season.
Detroit’s starting rotation resets with reigning Cy Young award winner Tarik Skubal taking the mound while Seattle’s Luis Castillo gets his second turn this spring opposite. Here is a look at what the pitching matchups have to offer.

SKUBAL
CASTILLO
Skubals’ first outing against the Los Angeles Dodgers was not great, but he did manage to get through the first four innings against the seemingly best offense on the planet, allowing just one lone earned run on a solo dinger. It was the fifth inning when things got ugly when his second allowed home run brought in three runs and turned a 2-1 lead into a 4-2 deficit and an eventual defeat.
Castillo’s 2025 debut started strong with four scoreless frames against the Athletics before the fifth-inning fever also struck him. A two-run jack in the fifth essentially ended his day and ostensibly killed the Mariners’ chances of victory. Ultimately, Seattle fell in that game, 7-0, with the starter taking the L — just like Skubal did.
