With the series even at 1-1, the Pistons host the New York Knicks in a pivotal Game 3 in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals today – Thursday, April 24 – at Little Ceasars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. Detroit used its physicality and clutch play to even the series with a 100-94 victory at Madison Square Garden on April 21. It snapped an NBA-record 15-game postseason losing streak and sets up one of the biggest playoff games in the city since the days of Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton and Co.
Cade Cunningham, a first-time All-Star and the franchise centerpiece, conjured up 33 points and 12 rebounds while Tobias Harris added 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Cunningham is averaging 26.1 points, 9.1 assists and 6.1 rebounds this season. Harris is averaging 20 points per game over the first two games, including shooting 58.3% from the field and 55.6% from distance.
Detroit’s defense is the story. They held a Knicks team that averaged 115.8 points per game to 94 points, including two 18-point quarters. The sixth-seeded Pistons sharpened the sword in every aspect from their playoff debut.
The Pistons are seeking their first playoff series win since 2008.

In front of their fervent fanbase, the third-seeded Knicks came up short as they head to hostile territory in the Motor City, where a postseason-starved city will come to life.
Star guard Jalen Brunson notched 37 points and seven assists in 44 minutes while Karl-Anthony Towns mustered just 10 points and six rebounds in the loss.
New York was handled on the boards, 48-34, and delivered a sub-par shooting performance at 42%, including 10 of 35 (28.6%) from beyond the arc.
With their starters receiving their usual heavy minutes, New York’s bench has been outscored 65-30, including 35-8 in Game 2.
Center Mitchell Robinson, who returned to the lineup at the tail end of the season, has scored six points in 38 minutes of the first two games.
The Knicks have won eight of their last nine games in Detroit, but those were in the regular season and a portion came against last year’s ghastly team. Two very different circumstances under new head coach J.B. Bickerstaff and these playoff Pistons.
