Inside Newcastle’s Boxpark after-party with Alan Shearer and the WAGs

Newcastle’s Carabao Cup heroes got the party started with their WAGs, fans and Alan Shearer at Boxpark Wembley after ending the club’s 70-year wait for a domestic trophy on Sunday.

The Magpies upset the odds to beat Premier League leaders Liverpool 2-1, sparking memorable scenes at the final whistle.

Goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak sealed the victory, and the pair led the celebrations on the pitch and in the dressing room as Newcastle finally got their hands on some silverware.

But the party did not step there as the players headed to Boxpark on Sunday night to continue the party with jubilant supporters and their loved ones.

Club legend Shearer was never going to miss out as he posed for pictures with Burn, who scored a bullet header just two days after receiving his first-ever England call-up.

Posting a photo of himself with Burn and several other fans on Instagram, Shearer wrote: ‘He is from f***ing Blyth man. The Geordie hero. What a week Big Dan Burn.’

The Brazilian was seen celebrating every tackle, and he won the seal of approval from Shearer who captioned his Instagram post: ‘Big f***ing Joe’.

Having covered every blade of grass, it may be a surprise that Joelinton had enough energy to celebrate on Sunday night, but he was the life of the party as he sprayed champagne over Newcastle’s fans from the Boxpark balcony.

He was joined by his wife Thays Gondim – the couple tied the knot last year – and Gondim could not hide her pride at her husband’s achievement.

Gala’s classic hit Freed From Desire got Boxpark jumping, and Gondim shared a video of herself dancing with Joelinton, while also posing for selfies with her friends.

Joelinton’s fellow Brazilian and club captain Bruno Guimaraes was also in the thick of the action alongside his wife Ana Lidia Martins.

Guimaraes and Martins have taken Newcastle to their hearts since moving to the North-East in 2022, and Martins rocked up to Wembley with a Magpies shirt that had her husband’s name and number on the back.

She took several pictures of her day out at Wembley, and captured some of the post-match scenes as Newcastle’s players made their way around the pitch to take in their triumph.

She was then able to pose for pictures with Guimaraes and their family at Boxpark as she sent out an emotional message on social media.

Martins wrote: ‘Unforgettable Day!!! I’m so proud of you and today is a day that will forever be marked in our lives. We will always be together, I love you SO MUCH @brunoguimaraes.’

Newcastle’s midfield outshone Liverpool’s in one of Wembley’s key battles, so it was only fitting that Sandro Tonali was also at Boxpark with his partner Juliette Pastore to celebrate.

Tonali only returned earlier this season from a 10-month betting ban, but has looked like he’s never been away since getting back into the team, and delivered another fine performance at Wembley.

He popped open the champagne at Boxpark before dousing Newcastle’s fans in it, while Pastore posted the highlights of her day on Instagram.

This included a photo of Tonali with the Carabao Cup in the dressing room as Pastore wrote: ‘So proud of you my love’, before the pair took a beaming photo together as the Italian midfielder held up his winner’s medal.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is typically understated with his approach to football, but he also allowed himself to enjoy playing a significant part in the club’s history.

High Performance Podcast host Jake Humphrey got himself down to Boxpark and got a grinning photo with Howe, captioning the post on X: ‘What a job this man has done’.

Howe’s assistant, Jason Tindall, is never one to shy away from the limelight, with his touchline antics making him a popular figure on Tyneside.

‘Mad Dog’ – as he is affectionately known – was happy to pose for pictures as he held up a Newcastle winners shirt on the Boxpark balcony.

Flying winger Anthony Gordon was not able to play at Wembley due to suspension, but he was happy to get involved in the after-party as Newcastle’s fans serenaded him with his own chant.

It has also become customary for a member of the winning club to pose for a photo in bed with the trophy as they pretend to sleep.

The likes of Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski have done it over the years, so who would be Newcastle’s representative?

The scenes at Boxpark will undoubtedly live long in the memory for Newcastle’s players and fans, and the party may not stop anytime soon.

Although several players will be heading off for international duty over the next 24 hours, there will be some squad members and supporters who have over two weeks to digest what has just happened, with Newcastle not back in action until April 2 when they host Brentford in the Premier League.
