Second baseman Ketel Marte and the Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to a contract extension that will keep him in Arizona through 2030 at a total value of $116 million, ESPN’s Jesse Rogers reports. The deal, which has not been officially announced by the team, includes an $11.5 million player option for 2031.
Marte, 31, was signed through 2028 on a five-year, $76 million contract agreed to in 2022. The new six-year deal, which includes a three-year extension, begins this season and replaces that original agreement, plus an additional three years and $64 million.

Arizona will get some salary relief with the contract, which includes $46 million in deferred money, including $5 million this year, according to MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert.
Last season, Marte finished third in National League MVP voting behind Shohei Ohtani and Francisco Lindor after batting .292 with a .932 OPS, 36 home runs, 23 doubles and 95 RBI in 583 plate appearances.
The extension for Marte is the latest long-term deal from the Diamondbacks. Pitcher Brandon Pfaadt agreed to a five-year, $75 million extension with the team last week, while shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (four years, $45 million) and reliever Justin Martinez (five years, $18 million) signed extensions during the spring.

Going into his ninth season with Arizona, Marte has compiled a .283 average, .844 OPS, 209 doubles, 140 homers and 465 RBI during his Diamondbacks tenure. While he has also played center field and shortstop in his career, he has settled in at second base the past two seasons.
Marte began his MLB career with the Seattle Mariners, who signed him as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. After two seasons, he was traded to the Diamondbacks along with pitcher Taijuan Walker for a three-player package that includes Jean Segura and Mitch Haniger.
