A slickened, soggy St. Patrick’s Day is on tap for the region, but officials expect the big parade in Manhattan will go off as planned.

Rain will continue Monday across Long Island and the region, especially before midafternoon, making for a wet St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York City, forecasters said.

Showers and possible thunderstorms are expected into the Monday rush hour, with showers continuing into the afternoon. Temperatures will rise near 56 by 11 a.m., when the parade steps off on Fifth Avenue, and then fall to around 50 during the remainder of the day, forecasters at the National Weather Service said.

New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half an inch are possible before the rain tapers off from west to east, forecasters said.

There were no reports of widespread damage Sunday into the overnight and no major transportation issues were reported by the beginning of Monday’s commute.
