MLB Trolls Boston Radio Host After Kristian Campbell’s First Red Sox Homer

Kristian Campbell had heavy expectations when he made the Opening Day roster for the Boston Red Sox.

He struck out in his first two MLB at-bats. The Boston media quickly attacked him the morning after the Opening Day win for the Red Sox. 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Tony Massarotti ripped Campbell’s big-league introduction on Friday’s “Felger and Mazz” radio program.

“Kristian Campbell was not great in this game either,” Massoratti said. “Defensively, I watched it again this morning. He looked scared. He looked nervous. … You want my honest opinion? It’s a little more extreme. He didn’t look ready for the big leagues. He didn’t.”

You can listen to Massarotti’s full take here.

Sure, the Red Sox second baseman had some nerves in his debut. That’s normal, but he’s weathered the storm quick.

Campbell tallied two hits Friday night and added two more Saturday against the Texas Rangers, including his first big-league home run on a solo shot to left center field. MLB took the chance to troll Massarotti when the admin account on X posted Campbell’s highlight.

“He just doesn’t look ready for the big leagues, Mike!” MLB posted.

It’s a small sample size either way, but the Red Sox should be thrilled with the production they’ve gotten from Campbell so far.
