Morgan Wallen performed two new songs on Saturday Night Live this weekend from his forthcoming album, I’m the Problem, and it seems some viewers seem to think Wallen is the problem after he abruptly walked off the stage at the end of the show.
Typically the SNL host—Oscar-winner Mikey Madison on the March 29 episode—the cast, and the musical guest linger on stage after the final sketch for some chit-chat and side-hugs while the credits roll. It’s a sweet, if sometimes awkward, tradition that Wallen apparently wanted no part of.
After Madison said her thank you’s and a farewell to the audience—”I had a wonderful time!”—Wallen leaned over to whisper something in her ear before bounding down the front steps of the iconic Studio 8H stage, jogging past the cameraman like he was double booked and running late to his second appointment.
Later that night, on his Instagram Story, he shared a photo of a private plane with the caption, “Get me to God’s country.” (He apparently lives in Nashville, though it’s not clear if that’s where he was headed.) According to People, he skipped the SNL afterparty.

It was difficult for some fans to read his behavior as anything other than disrespectful to both New York City and the institution that is Saturday Night Live, especially given his history with the show.
Back in 2020, Wallen was disinvited from SNL after he was caught breaking the show’s COVID-19 quarantine protocol by partying with college students at the University of Alabama. He finally made his debut a few months later, in December 2020, where he performed and even appeared in a sketch which poked fun at the incident.
The singer’s controversies aren’t limited to SNL: In 2020, Wallen was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct. A year later, in 2021, Wallen was slammed after he was caught on video yelling a racial slur outside a home in Nashville, resulting in a suspension from his record label. In 2024, he pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment after reportedly throwing a chair off the roof of a six-story building in Nashville. According to reports, the chair nearly hit two police officers.
“Get me to God’s country” was meme-ifed almost instantly, with X users sharing the quip alongside photos of American institutions like the Cheesecake Factory, Wawa, and the iconic Myrtle-Broadway subway stop in Brooklyn, New York, home of the Popeyes, Dunkin’, and Checkers trifecta.
SNL writer Josh Patten also weighed in on social media, sharing a photo of a Krispy Kreme truck with the caption, “Get me to God’s country.” When outlets began to speculate that Patten was making fun of Wallen, the writer shared that he was actually a fan—and pulled up the receipts to prove it.
Morgan Wallen himself has yet to weigh in on the IG Story that launched a thousand memes, though I imagine that the SNL writers will work it into the show if and when he returns.
