The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to try to pursue quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but there is no ending to this saga. What is the holdup? The ever-mercurial Rodgers is taking his time deciding, and it does seem like the issue is money.
Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says money is not why Rodgers has taken his time. On top of that, the Steelers have not talked to Rodgers since they laid their offer out to him. It seems Rodgers is thinking and will decide on his time.
On top of that, another team is being floated as a contender for Rodgers. Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports that the Minnesota Vikings continue to be a lingering team that could make a run at Rodgers despite having J.J. McCarthy.
Add those two things together, and Rodgers will take time to decide where he will go. Meanwhile, Russell Wilson is starting to put the wheels in motion for his own future.
Wilson is visiting the Cleveland Browns and Giants late this work, and has not talked to the Steelers in over a week, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. With all of that in mind, the Steelers seem to be waiting for Rodgers, and Wilson does not seem to be much of an option.
If Pittsburgh does not land either player, they will have a depleting number of candidates to choose from in free agency. There are not many players for them to look at anymore, but the top candidates would include Jameis Winston, Gardner Minshew, Joe Flacco, and Carson Wentz.
