ForbesNYT ‘Connections’ Hints And Answers For Wednesday, April 2By Kris HoltHey, folks! I hope you’re having a terrific week.
I work a lot. I truly love what I do for a living (especially putting this column together for you lovely folks every day), but I often find it hard to distance myself from work and truly focus on other things.
I’ve been taking steps toward that by reducing the volume of notifications on my phone and watch when I’m supposed to be away from my desk. Managing work-life balance as a self-employed person is often tricky but it’s important to get right (it’s not lost on me that I’m saying this just as I’m in the midst of setting up a newsletter!). We can’t be our best selves in either mode if we don’t strike that right balance. I hope you’ve been able to find that.
Before we begin, I’ve set up a discussion group for NYT Connections and this column on Discord. We have a great little community over there and we chat about more than NYT games. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot.
It’s also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare(!) occasions that I mess something up since I don’t look at the comments or Twitter much.
Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Thursday, April 3, are coming right up.
How To Play Connections
Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT website or Games app.
You’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part.
There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.
Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay.
Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.
If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.
If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication’s Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed.
Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my hints via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query.

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?
Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.
This is your final warning!
Today’s Connections answers are…
- Yellow group — printed notification (ANNOUNCEMENT, BULLETIN, NOTICE, POSTER)
- Green group — seen at a grocery store checkout counter (CONVEYOR BELT, REGISTER, SCALE, SCANNER)
- Blue group — things with tabs (BROWSER, FOLDER, KEYBOARD, SODA CAN)
- Purple group — palm ____ (BEACH, READER, SUNDAY, TREE)
No perfect game here, but my streak is up to 37 wins. Here’s how I fared:
🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟪🟩🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟦🟪🟦🟦 🟦🟦🟦🟦
🟪🟪🟪🟪
I got the yellows pretty much as soon as I finished writing out the word list, as ANNOUNCEMENT made that group crystal clear to me.
I was a little stumped after that, though. I did realize that CONVEYOR BELT and SCALE were probably part of a grocery store checkout, so I lumped those together with REGISTER and READER. I was one away because, of course, SCANNER (not READER) was the correct option. That locked in the greens.
From there, BROWSER, FOLDER, KEYBOARD and READER made sense to me as computer-y things. But no! I was one away again. But I lucked out. Even though the connection didn’t quite click for me, I swapped out READER for SODA CAN and got the blues. I’ve no idea why that convalesced in my brain, but I’m glad it did!
The group made sense in hindsight. A web BROWSER has tabs for each page you have open, while a KEYBOARD has a tab key. FOLDERs and SODA CANs also have physical tabs.
There aren’t a lot of words that go with SUNDAY to form a reasonably well-known phrase, so I puzzle out the purple connection before submitting that group.
That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Friday’s game if you need them.
P.S. We’re edging toward the end of the week and you may be feeling a little weary. Let’s venture into rock and roll territory for a little liveliness.
Regular readers may recall that Foo Fighters are one of my very favorite bands, but enjoy many of the members’ side projects too. Guitarist Chris Shifflett had a punk band called Jackson United (formerly Jackson) in the 2000s that I enjoyed quite a bit.
Sadly, the bands two albums aren’t on streaming services or, as far as I’m aware, available to buy digitally. The only CD player I have these days is my Xbox. I may have both albums on my old iPod, but I have no idea if that still works. I’m not even sure I have a charging cable for it.
At least I’ve found a few Jackson United songs on YouTube, so I’m gonna drop them in here for you. The first one, “Fell Into, is the breeziest and arguably the most radio friendly, so I’ll start with that. I really love “21st Century Fight Song” (which late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins plays drums on, fact fans, thought not in the video) and “All The Way” as well, but those are a little harder-edged. I hope you enjoy ’em:
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love!
