Olympic gold medalist Kyle Snyder has been arrested as part of a prostitution sting in Ohio, the Columbus Division of Police confirmed on Monday.
Snyder, 29, was one of 16 men arrested on May 9 as part of an undercover operation, CDP said in a statement.
He was arrested at a hotel on the city’s north side for engaging in prostitution and was issued a summons to appear in court on May 19 and released on the scene, the statement said.
Snyder is a three-time Olympic wrestler in the 97kg freestyle wrestling category. He won a gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games and silver in Tokyo in 2021. He finished fourth in Paris in 2024.
It is unclear if Snyder has an attorney.
Police: Kyle Snyder responded to online ads in prostitution sting
The Columbus Division of Police’s Police And Community Together Unit conducted an undercover operation on May 9 to reduce prostitution, the department said in a statement.
During the operation, the unit published online ads to “solicit others to engage in sexual activity for hire,” the department said.
At around 8:15 p.m., Snyder allegedly began texting and calling officers in response to one of the published ads. They set up a date at a nearby hotel where police said Snyder arrived and paid an undercover officer cash for sex. He was arrested as a result.
