Paul Heyman Put On A Masterclass In Last Night’s WrestleMania Main Event, Double-Turning And Aligning With Seth Rollins

WrestleMania 41 Night 1 is in the books, and the triple threat main event between Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and CM Punk was one for the ages. I can’t recall another three-way-dance in wrestling where all of the competitors were so beloved and had the crowd split like they were last night, and the match definitely lived up to the hype becoming an instant classic. From the video packages….

….to the huge WrestleMania entrances….

….to the insane spots and reversals they came up with….

….it was just incredible. Leading into the match, Paul Heyman was torn between supporting his Tribal Chief Roman Reigns and his former protege CM Punk – but had to be in Punk’s corner due to a favor he owed him in the storyline – so that’s where all the drama unfolded towards the end of the main event. Heyman slid CM Punk a chair instead of Roman Reigns, breaking his heart – but then hit Punk with a devastating low blow when he was about to lay into Reigns….

Then, as Reigns was about to use that chair against Seth Rollins, once again mirroring the Shield betrayal/last year’s Mania main event – Heyman did the same to him….

He even got his hand stuck on that one, hilariously….

Even though I think a lot of hardcore wrestling fans saw this coming, to watch it come to fruition was shocking. Allegiant Stadium had two of the biggest collective gasps I’ve ever heard in my life last night for those low blows. I think it was the right call too; nothing else would have people talking more than they are right now leading into Night 2, and it completely reinvents Rollins and Heyman – who could both use a change. Do we get a triple threat rematch at Backlash? Does Brock Lesnar come back and make it a Heyman guy Fatal-4-Way? Does Punk break off from this feud and move onto John Cena this Summer, with Rollins/Reigns as one of the Summerslam main events? Who knows!

As for the rest of the card, I’d say Night 1 was good, but not great. Jey Uso vs Gunther was an awesome kickoff match and moment for Jey….

….but aside from that, a lot of the event felt like it could’ve been any other pay-per-view. Nothing was particularly bad (in fact a lot of the matches I’d say were pretty good), but not everything had that big “WrestleMania” feel. I think Night 2 will improve on that later on, because I like the card a lot better tonight….

Rollins standing tall with Heyman kinda has me second guessing whether or not John Cena wins in the main tonight (which I thought was a sure thing leading into this weekend). Do they end both nights of WrestleMania 41 with a heel standing tall? Will they double up on shock value and reveal Rollins/Rock have been aligned all along?

There’s certainly been hints….
