Penn State Becomes Second Team In D1 History With 10 All-Americans

Penn State has etched its name into another coveted spot in the college wrestling history books.

With three blood round victories Friday night, the Nittany Lions became the second team in NCAA Division I history with 10 All-Americans, matching a feat previously only accomplished by Minnesota in 2001.

After getting upset in Friday afternoon’s quarterfinals, top-seeded 157-pounder Tyler Kasak bounced back with a consolation win, kicking out of a leg attack by Jude Swisher in the closing seconds to win a 5-4 decision to become the 10th Nittany Lion to reach the podium in Philadelphia.

Penn State’s Luke Lilledahl and Braeden Davis also posted blood round victories Friday night, to secure All-America status. Seven Nittany Lions booked podium spots Friday afternoon with quarterfinal victories. Top-seeded Lilledahl rebounded from a quarterfinal loss by defeating Wisconsin’s Nicolar Rivera 7-3 at 125 pounds. Davis made a first-period takedown stand as the difference in a 4-2 win against returning All-American Evan Frost of Iowa State at 133.
