The PGA Tour’s marquee event is staring early today. Tee times were moved up for the 2025 Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass’ Stadium Course due to an ominous weather forecast for the Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., area.

There’s a chance of thunderstorms, some of them severe, hitting the area at 1 p.m. ET Sunday, which led to tournament organizers making the decision to move up tee times, group players in threesomes and have them go off both sets of tees.

Sunday’s tee times started at 8 a.m. ET with the last threesome — Bud Cauley, Lucas Glover and 54-hole leader J.J. Spaun — beginning their final round at 10:01 a.m.

According to the weather forecast, some of the thunderstorms coming around or after 1 p.m. — when the final groups will have about four or five holes remaining — could be severe. The area is currently in a Tornado Watch and the wind gusts are picking up.

On Golf Channel’s pre-game show on Sunday morning, a member of the TPC Sawgrass agronomy staff said they were “remarkably” close to delaying play on Saturday but they are keeping their fingers crossed they can get the final round in today — even if that means waiting out an afternoon delay and finishing later Sunday evening.

“[Moving up tee times] gives us the best opportunity to complete the championship on Sunday, even if we do get shut down with weather for a few hours,” he said. “It at least buys us some time at the end of the day. Hopefully it works out.”

Worst case, the Players Championship will finish on Monday. But we’ll wait to see if that’s even needed.

You can watch the final round of the Players from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET on Golf Channel, with NBC picking up the coverage from 12:30-3 p.m. Final round tee times are below.
