PlayStation 5 ‘unprecedented’ price hike leaves fans terrified

PlayStation fans are horrified to learn their consoles might go up in price due to the latest U.S tariffs.

This week U.S President Donald Trump announced new tariffs that’ll go into effect soon, causing chaos for several countries around the world.

It’s believed the tariffs are the reason the Nintendo Switch 2 and its games are so pricy in the U.S, as Nintendo likely factored them in when selecting the price point of its new console.

It’s PlayStation fans who are really concerned though, as they believe the tariffs will change the pricing of several PlayStation 5 models as well as future hardware releases by Sony.

“So, if these tariffs go into effect, once the supply that’s been already shipped here to the USA runs out, the cost of a PS5 is going to be roughly $750 for a slim model” read one fan’s theory on the whole thing.

At the time of writing there’s no way of knowing whether this is accurate, the tariffs aren’t here yet and it’s far too early to know what effect they’ll have on the gaming industry, but price increases are definitely expected in some capacity.

As you can imagine nobody is pleased about this, with one saying “If you think that retailers aren’t gonna jack up the prices of the units already in the US too, I got a bridge to sell ya.”

Many are also looking to the future, specifically the PlayStation 6 which was bound to cost an arm and a leg already, before the tariffs were a factor. “I’m scared of how much the PS6 will cost” read one of the comments.

The gaming industry has really been burnt by this one, as games and hardware were already approaching silly prices without tariffs like this making things 10x worse.
