Thursday morning the Raiders rattled off several official announcements of free agents they have signed as well as consummating the trade to acquire QB Geno Smith from the Seahawks.
The biggest announcement, of course, was that of the trading of pick 92 in the third round to Seattle for Geno Smith. That is the pick they received from the Jets in the Davante Adams trade early last season.
With Smith the Raiders solve their QB problem, landing the three-year Seattle starter and former Pro Bowler. And new head coach Pete Carroll gets his former QB back.
To quarterback the defense, the team announced the addition of former Steelers linebacker Elandon Roberts who was signed to replace Robert Spillane at the middle linebacker spot. Roberts was signed to a reported one-year deal.
Next up they moved to the secondary with the announcement of safety Jeremy Chinn who figures to replace Tre’von Moehrig who left in free agency to sign with the Panthers. Chinn was signed to a reported three-year deal.
After Chinn,, the Raiders announced the other safety they added, who comes over *from* Carolina — Lonnie Johnson Jr. He is expected to compete for playing time at safety with recently re-signed Isaiah Pola-Mao.
Joining Chinn and Johnson in the secondary is cornerback Eric Stokes. The former Packers cornerback comes on board as depth and competition at outside corner. Stokes joins the Raiders on a reported one-year deal.
