Unseasonably warm weather rules the First Alert Forecast once again to start the week, ahead of Monday storms.
Monday began unseasonably warm and mostly dry once more as we woke up to temperatures in the low to mid-60s. A few rain showers are possible through the morning commute. Rain coverage remains very spotty, with only minimal early commute impacts, at most. Temperatures soar back into the mid and upper 70s across Maryland Monday afternoon. It’ll be several degrees cooler right on the bay.

While the first half of Monday is shaping up to be mostly calm, there will be a 180-degree turn in the First Alert Forecast by early evening. Bands of showers and storms will accompany a strong cold front through Maryland. The chance of storms increases after 3 p.m. in western Maryland, after 4 p.m. in Baltimore County/City, and after 5 p.m. across the eastern shore. The Baltimore Orioles are set to play their home opener on Monday, starting at 2:35 p.m.
More than one burst of heavy rain and lightning is possible through the evening. A few storms may become severe and produce damaging wind gusts or hail up to the size of quarters. Spotty tree damage and power outages are expected with the strongest storms. Any storm that develops – severe or not – will produce frequent lightning and brief heavy rain. A few locations could see a half inch to an inch of rain.
The upside to that is that we need the rain in Maryland badly… it’s the timing that’s unfortunate with the Orioles home opener.
Much chillier, breezy weather filters in on Tuesday. Winds increase Wednesday ahead of the next chance of wet weather late in the workweek. Widespread 1″-2″ of rain is a good bet between Monday afternoon and next Sunday afternoon.
