In a move first reported Sunday by Cedric Golden of the Austin American-Statesman, Sean Miller is leaving Xavier to become the next head coach at the University of Texas.
Miller, 56, had just finished the third season of his second stint as the head coach at Xavier Friday, when the Musketeers fell to Illinois in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Milwaukee.
In eight seasons total, Miller went 185-87 with six NCAA Tournament appearances, including three Sweet 16 appearances and an Elite Eight run in 2008. Xavier finished 22-12 this season.
Miller signed a two-year contract extension with Xavier in October 2023.
Texas Athletic Director Chris Del Conte moved quickly to pluck Miller from the Big East. There were initial reports that Texas would part ways with head coach Rodney Terry following the Longhorns’ loss to Miller’s Musketeers in the First Four at UD Arena on Wednesday.
