BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The storm system has moved east of the Greater Baton Rouge area. Weather conditions will improve this evening.
A PDS tornado watch was issued earlier for the Greater Baton Rouge area until 6 pm. The line of storms is east of the Baton Rouge metro area. Now that the worst of the weather has passed us, things will quiet down for the rest of this evening. The tornado watch was cancelled for a few parishes and counties in Louisiana and Mississippi. The watch remains in effect until 6 p.m. for Ascension, St. Helena and Livingston.

Storms, strong winds on Saturday ⛈️
The Storm Tracker Team has been monitoring a severe weather threat for Saturday for the last several days. A strong low pressure system began moving across the South on Friday. The eastward track of this system continued into Saturday. This led to several tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, hail and very gusty winds. Thankfully, there weren’t any tornadoes in the Greater Baton Rouge area, but our neighbors in Tangipahoa parish and Pike County, MS weren’t so lucky. A tornado went through the East Fork community near Kentwood and a couple of tornadoes went through Pike County, MS.
While the severe weather threat is diminishing this evening for our area, eastern Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia will deal with severe weather tonight and during the overnight hours as this system moves east.
- Saturday’s Severe Weather Risks
A wind advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. for Iberville, Assumption, Ascension and the southern half of Livingston parish. Southerly winds will be near 25-30 mph. Wind gusts could reach 45 mph. A high wind warning is in effect until 7 p.m. for the Greater New Orleans area.
