After the Steelers passed on Shedeur Sanders in Rounds 1, 3, and 4 due to a “best player available” mindset, it almost seemed as if he would never be selected by Pittsburgh. However, the stage seemed set for a Round 5 selection with the 156th pick in the draft — and with just around 12 picks separating them from Sanders, the Browns traded up to draft him.
As the Browns acquired the No. 144 overall pick in the draft, it seemed almost preposterous to expect Sanders to be selected here — or so we all thought.
The Browns had previously selected Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he will now be joined by Sanders.
Both young QB prospects will join an already packed quarterback room featuring Deshaun Watson, Kenny Pickett, and Joe Flacco.
It appears the Browns are content with a strategy of throwing whatever quarterback they can at the wall and hoping something sticks, while the Steelers are taking a more deliberate approach to their QB room — one that may involve four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers.
