In a plot twist reminiscent of their hit film Anyone But You, Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell reunited at his sister’s wedding in Texas over the weekend. They were spotted together at various restaurants amid reports she is no longer engaged to her producing partner Jonathan Davino.
Glen and Sweeney fended off dating rumors as they worked on the 2023 rom-com. Sweeney was with her fiancé at the time. Neither the Euphoria star nor Davino has commented on speculation that they’ve split, but she has not been wearing her engagement ring. She also deleted a photo of her kissing Davino from her Instagram page.
So what does this mean for fans who have been shipping a Glen-Sydney romance?
Reps for the stars did not respond to Yahoo Entertainment’s request for comment, but according to reports, there is nothing to their weekend rendezvous and the two are just “friends.” Sweeney is close with Glen’s sister, Leslie Powell, who got married in Dallas. Leslie even posted a photo with the actress on her Instagram stories on Sunday.
Sweeney is wearing a light-blue gown in the picture, the same color as Leslie’s bridesmaids, but there’s no confirmation she played that big of a role on the wedding day. TMZ reported Sweeney attended the weekend festivities with her best friend amid her rumored breakup and she planned to go to the wedding months ago as she’s close with the Powell family.
Although Powell and Sweeney denied they were dating years ago, they had no problem fueling the flames on the internet. In April 2024, Powell told the New York Times that it was Sweeney who suggested they encourage the rumors.
“The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry,” he said. “Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry. That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.”
However, Sweeney admitted four months prior the rumors took a toll on Glen, who split with his girlfriend of three years, model Gigi Paris, while filming Anyone But You.
“It was really hard on Glen, which made me sad … because [otherwise] it was such a beautiful experience for the both of us,” she told Glamour. “I care for him so much.”
Powell is set to head to Las Vegas this week for CinemaCon as he will receive the Star of the Year honor. Will Sweeney be on hand for the occasion? That would really set the internet on fire.
