‘Ted Lasso’ Recasting Role For Season 4 Of Apple Series

EXCLUSIVE: With Ted Lasso‘s Season 4 formally greenlighted last week, casting can officially begin. But before the selection process of actors for new characters starts, the comedy series is going through a bit of recasting.

Search is under way for a young actor to play Ted Lasso’s (Jason Sudeikis) son Henry. A soccer fan throughout the first three seasons, Henry, now 12, has become a skilled soccer player himself. Reps for Apple and Ted Lasso studio Warner Bros. TV declined comment.

The character, played by child actor Gus Turner is Seasons 1-3, was seen largely through FaceTime video calls with his dad who went to London to coach AFC Richmond while Henry stayed in Kansas with his mom. Henry visited Ted in the UK twice, once with his mom Michelle (Andrea Anders) and once solo, following his parents’ divorce. The Season 3 finale ended with Henry running out to welcome his dad home after Ted left Richmond to return to Kansas.

As Deadline reported exclusively last week, Season 4 of Ted Lasso will kick off in Kansas where the first episode will film. It may also be where the new actor playing Henry gets to show off his soccer talents.

It is unclear whether the required soccer proficiency or another reason is behind the recasting. It also is TBD whether Anders will reprise her role in the upcoming season.

As Deadline reported, locked in so far as cast members for Season 4 are Sudeikis — also Ted Lasso co-creator, executive producer and co-showrunner — Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca), Brett Goldstein (Roy) and Jeremy Swift (Leslie), with Juno Temple (Keeley) in negotiations to join them. Ted Lasso co-creator Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard) doesn’t have an acting deal yet but has been working as writer/executive producer alongside fellow writers/executive producers Sudeikis and Goldsetin on scripts for the new season.

Little is known about the storylines in the new season beyond the basic premise — Ted coaching the AFC Richmond’s women’s team that Keeley and Rebecca hatched in the Season 3 finale. It also is unclear whether Henry will remain in Kansas or go to live with his dad in the U.K., expanding the role from the first three seasons. What is known is that Henry has inherited some of his father’s quirks, making the duo fun to watch together.
