Texas expected to hire Xavier’s Sean Miller as new men’s basketball coach, reports say

A new face could soon be leading Texas men’s basketball.

According to The Austin American-Statesman’s Cedric Golden and Horns247’s Chip Brown, Xavier’s Sean Miller is expected to be hired as the program’s new head coach. The move comes just a few hours after Rodney Terry was reportedly informed he was being let go.

Miller should be no stranger to the Texas men’s basketball team, having seen the squad during this year’s NCAA Tournament. Miller’s Xavier team eliminated the Longhorns from the tournament, winning a First Four matchup 86-80 Wednesday night in Dayton, Ohio.

Miller was recently in his second stint as head coach at Xavier. He took over the program in 2022 after spending 12 seasons at Arizona. Miller’s stint with the Wildcats included some controversy as he was the subject of a federal investigation into corruption in college basketball in 2017.

Miller was fired at Arizona in 2021.

Miller has posted a 487-196 record throughout his coaching career with 13 NCAA Tournament appearances. He led Xavier to a 22-12 record in 2024-25, falling in the NCAA Tournament’s round of 64 against Illinois.
