The 129th Boston Marathon got underway on Monday morning, and while most of the 31,000 runners were simply trying to reach the finish line on Boylston Street, a select few were fighting for the win.

Defending champions like Ethiopia’s Sisay Lemma, Kenyan Hellen Obiri, Switzerland’s Marcel Hug, and Great Britain’s Eden Rainbow-Cooper were back in what was an undeniably talented field of elite competitors at 2025’s iteration of Boston’s iconic race.

Here’s a list of the 2025 Boston Marathon winners and top results:

Men’s race: John Korir of Kenya fell at the start, but got back up before making a powerful move in the Newton hills to get the win.

1. John Korir: 2:04:45

2. Alphonce Felix Simbu: 2:05:04

3. Cybrian Kotut: 2:05:04

Women’s race: Sharon Lokedi prevented Hellen Obiri from three-peating in Boston, making a strong late move to secure the win.

1. Sharon Lokedi: 2:17:22

2. Hellen Obiri: 2:17:41

3. Yalemzerf Yehualaw: 2:18:06

Men’s wheelchair: Switzerland’s Marcel Hug, known as “the Silver Bullet,” clinched his eighth career win in Boston.

1. Marcel Hug: 1:21:34

2. Daniel Romanchuk: 1:25:58

3. Jetze Plat: 1:30:16

Women’s wheelchair: Susannah Scaroni, who won Boston in 2023, emerged from a crowded field to take the day by a healthy margin.

3. Manuela Schar: 1:39:18

Men’s handcycle: U.S. handcyclist Alfredo de los Santos won for the second time in Boston after first emerging victorious in 2022.

3. Casey Falkner: 1:15:23

Women’s handcycle: JoAnn Outten-Kenton won her first Boston Marathon, defeating Edie Perkins at the line.
