This Easter, the White House tried to show that President Trump is making good on his campaign promise to “bring back Christianity.” Trump kicked things off with a Palm Sunday statement saying, “This week, we pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon our beloved Nation.” On Wednesday night, he attended an Easter prayer service and dinner with faith leaders and political allies. Charles Billingsley, the singer and pastor who opened the program, thanked the president for “honoring Easter the way it should be honored.”
As it turns out, “honoring Easter” for Trump involves a surprising amount of spewing vitriol at your enemies, both on Truth Social and in the presence of children at the White House Easter Egg Roll.
Trump’s Easter Sunday got off to a fairly normal start, though he switched up his worship plans. During his first term, Trump attended Easter services at an Episcopal church in Palm Beach, Florida. On Saturday, he wrote on Truth Social that he was looking forward to “having Easter service early tomorrow morning at the White House!”
It’s unclear what that service entailed, but by 8:40 a.m. Trump had posted a standard Easter greeting to his Truth Social followers:
Six minutes later, he followed up with a tirade that was decidedly not filled with “Peace and Joy.” Trump often sends holiday greetings to the “Radical Left Lunatics,” but the rest of his Easter message was particularly vitriolic. He attacked “the WEAK and INEFFECTIVE Judges and Law Enforcement Officials” holding up his mass-deportation efforts, which he described as a “sinister attack.” Then he spewed some hate at Joe Biden and repeated his lies about the 2020 election being “stolen”:
The president then vowed to make America “bigger, better, stronger, wealthier, healthier, and more religious” than ever before, signing the post with his name and occupation in all caps for anyone unfamiliar with Truth Social user @realDonaldTrump:
Throughout the rest of the day, Trump posted to Truth Social another 20 times, keeping the tirade going even as he golfed at his club in Sterling, Virginia. Targets included “Radical Lunatic Democrats,” China, New York attorney general Letitia James, the “Fake News Media,” federal judge James Boasberg, and Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who Trump insisted is a MS-13 gang member though there is little evidence to support that.
Trump also praised himself as the “GREATEST FRIEND THAT AMERICAN CAPITALISM HAS EVER HAD!”
And he shared a version of the “Golden Rule” that differs just a tad from the Bible’s message to “do to others what you would have them do to you”:
Trump was still full of the holiday spirit at the White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday. He began the festivities by declaring, “We’re honoring Jesus Christ” and “bringing religion back in America”:

Then he entertained the kids by showing off a Trump trading card featuring his bloody post-assassination-attempt photo and taking more jabs at Biden:

So remember, there’s no need to study up on the Bible to function in Trump’s more explicitly Christian nation. It seems making America “more religious” mainly involves telling everyone how great you are and mercilessly attacking all who oppose you.
