Bitan Adhikary, a TCS engineer from Bengal, tragically died in the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir. The 40-year-old was vacationing with his wife and son, who survived. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee expressed condolences and assured assistance in bringing Adhikary’s remains back to Kolkata. Adhikary, a US-based techie with 15 years of experience, was the sole provider for his parents.
Bitan Adhikary, a US-based TCS engineer was among the 28 tourists who were brutally killed in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. The 40-year-old techie, originally from West Bengal, had returned to India last month with his wife Sohini and three-year-old son Hridaan on a summer break. The news has left the family in deep shock. Bitan was the only support for his parents. I spoke to him just this morning,” Bitan’s cousin Debashish Chakraborty told state minister Aroop Biswas.
As reported in TOI, the three landed in Kashmir on April 16 and were scheduled to return on April 24. They reached Pahalgam just hours before the attack. While Bitan was shot dead by terrorists, his wife and son survived the attack who are now on their way back home.
Bitan Adhikary was based in Florida, US and was working as a test manager with TCS. As per his LinkedIn profile, he held a degree in B.Tech from West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata.
Bitan had over 15 years of experience as a lead in UI/API Automation and Functional testing. Before TCS, he worked with prominent companies including Verizon and Cognizant.
In a post on X, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee wrote “My heart goes out to the families of the victims of the devastating terrorist attack on the tourists in Jammu and Kashmir today.”
“One of the victims, Sri Bitan Adhikari, is from West Bengal. I have talked with his wife over phone. Though no words are enough to console her in this hour of grief, I have assured her that my Government is taking all steps to bring back his mortal remains to his house at Kolkata.”
“My deepest condolences to all the families who have lost their loved ones in this inhuman act of terror,” she stated.
