The United States Men’s National Team take the field today in Los Angeles to once again defend their Concacaf Nations League title against Panama in the semifinals. The USMNT arrived here by beating Jamaica on aggregate in the quarterfinals, and they arrived in LA with the goal of winning the Concacaf Nations League for a fourth straight time.
The USMNT last faced Panama in a friendly in October, winning 2-0 in Austin. Before that, they met in the group stage of the 2024 Copa América, where they lost 2-1. It was a big reason the USMNT did not advance out of the group. The USMNT recognizes this and knows that the Concacaf Nations League are always full of drama and wild moments, so they hope to put their heads down and play their game. It’s the first major competition for Mauricio Pochettino as USMNT head coach, and he’s focused on one match at a time.
Panama hopes to once again take out the United States in a major tournament, as they have done so in the 2024 Copa América as well as the 2023 Gold Cup. They will play without fear and know they have a team that can put some good moments together to win the game. Last year, the USMNT needed an own goal and extra time to beat Jamaica in the Concacaf Nations League semifinals. They know this will be an equally tough affair, and it adds to the tournament fever that today bestows.
