The Chicago river has been dyed green for St Patrick’s Day.
Thousands of people flocked to downtown Chicago to witness the river turned green in keeping with a tradition that started back in 1962.
Since 1962, the Chicago Journeymen Plumbers Local Union 130 has been pouring 40 pounds of dye into a stretch of the river to help it turn a vibrant green colour.
The union says the dye they use is an orange-red vegetable-based powder that is non-toxic and safe for wildlife.
