LEXINGTON — Louisville basketball plays its first NCAA Tournament game since 2019 today.

Pat Kelsey‘s Cardinals (27-7), after a head-scratching Selection Sunday draw, are the No. 8 seed in the South Region. They tip off two days of nonstop hoops against No. 9 Creighton (24-10) at Rupp Arena for the right to face, in all likelihood, the tournament’s No. 1 overall seed, Auburn, on Saturday.

U of L is 1-2 all time against the Bluejays, who have reached the second weekend of March Madness in three of the past four postseasons. The programs last met March 11, 1999, in Orlando, Florida; when Creighton, as a No. 10 seed, ended the No. 7 Cards’ season with a 62-58 win in the first round.

This is Louisville’s 40th appearance in the Big Dance and Kelsey’s fifth. The 49-year-old Cincinnati native is still looking for his first tournament victory.

Betting odds: Louisville, as of Wednesday afternoon, was a 2 ½-point favorite (-110) on DraftKings, which set the over/under at 145 ½ points (-108). The money line odds are U of L -142, Creighton +120. 

Score predictions: KenPom.com gives the Cards a 60% chance of winning and projects a 75-72 final score in their favor. BartTorvik.com is also forecasting a Louisville victory (63%), with a projected final score of 75-72.
