Why two-time Patriots champion sees Drake Maye as winner from NFL Draft

Those around the NFL were impressed with the New England Patriots’ draft picks. They were highly graded from experts and marked as one of the winners from draft weekend.

And because they addressed several needs, Damien Woody believes Drake Maye is a big winner of the 2205 NFL Draft.

“You go out there obviously at the No. 4 pick, you get Will Campbell. You get the left tackle out of LSU to protect the blind side,” the former Patriot said on “Get Up” on Monday. “Then you come back in the second round, you get TreVeyon Henderson, the explosive running back from Ohio State to add some juice in the running game.

“Then in the third round you get Kyle Williams, the wide receiver from Washington State, who I think is going to be a factor in the passing game for the Pats,” Woody continued.

Campbell immediately upgrades the offensive line and adds protection for Maye in an important Year 2 in New England. The LSU product emotionally declared he’d “fight and die” to protect his new teammates.

Henderson, meanwhile, adds another option for the offense. The running back didn’t fumble during his career at Ohio State, and ESPN’s Mel Kiper believed Henderson was the best pass-blocking running back in this draft.

Of course, the players will need to perform on the field and live up to their expectations. But there is a lot of optimism surrounding the Patriots going into the 2025 season.
